Back in the day.

It seems like only yesterday but it's been such a long long time. It was the summer of 1970 and I was spending it at Uncle Sams summer camp known as UTapao AFB Thailand.

Till then I had been a dumbass red neck kid from Evansville Ind. My main man, William Defoe said in Platoon "the worm has finally turned for you".

We were walking down a small, rutted, dirt road just off base headed for the main road. My buddy passed a joint my way and I took a hit. I remember saying "well I heard it wouldn't kill you", I smile when I think about it.
I must admit the first time scared the hell out of me. I didn't notice anything when we finally got the road in fact we got all the way back to base before I started to notice anything wrong. We got in a cab to go to the BX cafeteria and I started to soar. I remember standing in line as the paranoia over took me. I dropped my tray and excused myself. I remember thinking man if I can just get back to the barracks and get some sleep I'll be fine.
I sat at the bus stop and watched three buses go by, all going the same direction. I got on one and sat in the back where I wouldn't be noticed. At my stop I slide out of the bus and crawled to my bunk. My friends came by later to check on me. I just told them I had a bad trip and passed out.

The next day the sun came out, the day progressed as it usually did but my perspective on life had changed. I sit here at 62, never believing I'd make it here, so now I want to share some thoughts.

I just read where Willie Nelson got busted for a couple pounds of smoke on his tour bus. Willie Nelson is 75 years old, an entertainer and a cannabis legalization advocate. People of Willie Nelsons statue and fame wouldn't ber questioned if they had a couple cases of fine wine, or Jack Daniels or maybe a couple kegs of Heineken on board their tour bus. As long as the driver could pass a sobriety test they wouldn't even be hassled but because Willie had some smoke he gets busted. Hasn't this gone far enough?

There is no reason that an adult shouldn't be able to smoke some cannabis and get high. The truth is out, and people know. Reefer Madness doesn't work anymore...
